Artist’s street – Yet Kieu street
Mentioning Yet Kieu street, one cannot miss the name of the Fine Arts University which has been well-known as the cradle of many famous Vietnamese painters. Because of this, Yet Kieu is also called ‘the street of artists’.
Meeting Nguyen Thuong Hien and Tran Hung Dao streets at two ends, the one-way Yet Kieu street is just 500 metre long. The Fine Arts University is situated to the left hand side of the street when you travel up from Nguyen Thuong Hien to Tran Hung Dao street. Built in 1925, the institution now offers training in painting and sculpture and has come under the spotlight since last year when a gallery called Viet Art was opened here. “Viet Art provides an excellent space for display and professional exchange about painting rather than for commercial purpose,” says a foreign expert in Vietnamese contemporary painting after her visit to the gallery.
The little Yet Kieu street is not a renown culinary address, yet it boasts several restaurants luring customers with their own flavors and spices such as Phuc Bread and Beef-stake. Lan Anh Cafe and Phuong Coffee House placed within a garden win customers by their peaceful space, reasonable price and good service, having becoming favorite hideouts for white collars wanting to escape from a tense working day.
